Assault on Black ReachAssault on Black Reach is the latest Warhammer 40k stater set which pitts the Space Marines against the Orks.

The Assault on Black Reach starter set is a great way to get started in the Warhammer 40k hobby for a few reasons.

First of all, the starter set gives you a great introduction into the world of Warhammer 40k including the process of building and painting your models, as well as the rules for playing the game.

By the time you finish putting together, painting and playing the Assault on Black Reach starter set, you’ll have a very good idea of what the hobby of Warhammer 40k is all about and you’ll know whether or not you want to pursue it further.

Secondly, the set gives you two complete starter armies – the Space Marines and the Orks – to start playing the game with your friends.  Even if down the road you end up choosing to build and play a different army, you will always have these two starter armies of Space Marines and Orks which you can use to get your friends hooked on the game.

Often times people want to share their new hobby with their friends, such as for example when their friends come over to their house, but if you only have one army that you are building then your friends will not have an army of their own to try playing against.  By having a starter set like this around, you can play a game with your friends letting them either play the Space Marines or the Orks and get the hooked.

My Warhammer 40k Journey

My journey into Warhammer 40k began around 5 years ago when my wife and I walked into a gaming store and I saw a glass display case with Warhammer miniatures for the first time in my life.  I was completely awestruck by the amazing detail that went into building and hand-painting these miniatures.

I think my wife must have seen the look on my face because a few months after that she bought me my first Warhammer Fantasy starter set for my birthday.  I was totally hooked.

A short while after that I decided to switch from Warhammer Fantasy to Warhammer 40k and began collecting some Eldar and Tau army pieces.

Building and painting those models was a lot of fun, but randomly collecting different models from different armies isn’t the best way to learn to play the game, so I never did end up getting into actually playing Warhammer 40k at that time.  A short while later my wife and I ended up moving to our new house and all my Warhammer stuff was packed in boxes, where it hid until 2010 due to my busy work schedule.

In 2010 I dug up my Warhammer 40k boxes and got back into the hobby.  This time around though, I decided to get back into the hobby by purchasing the Assault on Black Reach starter set and documenting my journey by Blogging and Video Blogging.
