Dragyri Shard Slave Painting

October 12, 2011 by

In this video I paint a Dragyri Shard Slave.

Unlike my other painting videos so far though, I don’t speed up the paining portion of the video here because I wanted to try out making a video with the painting shown in real-time instead of sped up.

What do you guys prefer?

[..YouTube..] Thanks for posting! I might suggest a few tips that I have learned maybe you find useful. I attach the model’s base to a empty paint pot to hold while painting. I use white glue, others use blue tack. It gives you something to hold while working, and lowers the chance of touching the painted mini. Instead of using the paint straight from the pot, I water down the paint alittle on a pallete, I find it helps keep the detail more. I also finish my basing before the primer goes on.

  3. [..YouTube..] @skywatcher7 – THanks! I have tried attaching the models to stuff, but lately I’ve been getting lazy. I think I might start doing that again though. As far as using a palette I need to look into that. I tried it before but I didn’t like it. It seemed like a waste of paint, but I could be wrong. I’m noting now that i’m painting more that they paints dry out because i have the lid open. So it’s probably better to use a palette.

[..YouTube..] @tabletopgamercom You are right about paint drying quick on a palette. I typically add water or an additive to slow drying like Liquitex Slo-Dri. My friends recommend a wet-palette as the best answer, I haven’t tried it yet. I just got a porcelain palette to replace my plastic one.

  10. [..YouTube..] I use a ceramic tile as a palette. I’d water down my paints a bit more if I were you. The Foundation paints are a bit thick. You might want to also layer your highlights instead of just foundation paints with washes over top. It will make the colors pop more. It looks good for tabletop quality but if you want a better quality to your look that might help. I love the Dark Age minis. I wish somebody else played it in my area.
